Experience

Alterations. (September 2021 – Present)

  • Working for family to adjust clothing and homewares. Fitting my time in around coursework and employment. Turn around has been within 4 days from fitting to completion. Used to improve my accuracy and time keeping, as well as experience with various fabrics.

Work Experience – Royal Opera House (February 2023)

  • Worked in the production studio for Cinderella for two weeks, plus extra for secondary workshops. Working in a pair to aid the team. Application of decoration to a tulle cape to by hand sewing. Creating fabric flowers by hand using various materials for future applications. Decorating star appliques for tutus.

Work Experience – Southend Operatic and Dramatic Society (October 2022 – November 2022)

  • Aided in the sourcing, designing, drafting, fitting and making of costumes for the show. 6 weeks turn around for 4 lined Victorian school boy jackets, 4 white dresses and 4 yellow pinafores. Included in this time I had to fit in: fittings for other performers; complete reconstruction of two milkmaid dresses into tavern girl dresses; alterations; repairs to company stock. Rentals had temporary adaptions made that were quickly removed without damage before returning. Huge fitting session for 46 children (Chaperones were present) with outfit changes arranged. During performances I helped dress performers, repair garments, and helped ship the show out after the last performance.

Work Experience – Thorpedene Primary School Textiles Workshop (October 2022)

  • 4 days over 3 weeks, teaching children different mark making methods on fabric, helping them to design and make flags for their upcoming school parade event. Ran a lunch club where children joined me, and we made a banner for the event from scratch. Assisted in the afterschool sewing club on three days.

Collaboration - Kinetika (Jan 2022-March 2022)

  • Helping to create silk flowers representing the nations of Britain for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Parade "Thank You" dance. Dyeing, fabric manipulation, form stability and weather-proofing were imperative for success.
